Terencio González

 LUMINARIA

15th October to 1st December 2018
Opening on the 15th October 2018 at 5.30 pm

This in situ exhibition by Terencio González, located in the heart of the Academic Palace of the Pantheon-Sorbonne Center, is a journey through time and space in the history of modern and contemporary painting.

Like the works of the American Richard Diebenkorn, to which the artist refers, Luminaria transports us into a reflection where time and space converge through panoramas and horizons of light.
It would be a question of living here a form of linear and appeased expressionism that would speak to us, beyond the recycling of Argentinian paper-posters, of the successive passages of human action and what they suggest of residual energy and hopes for rebirth.
This form of resurgent figuration, secretly impregnated with undulating scrolls and rugged, almost sonorous passages, would be gradually discovered with each breath crossing the Soufflot gallery. From local to global: The work as a witness to the passage of bodies and the discontinuity of life. Over the course of the days, from dawn to dusk, this immanent presence leads us towards a reflection on the world and its sounds.
These superimposed lines, reflexive, abstract, tense and acoustic, escape the configuration patterns of the painting itself. They have neither beginning nor end. They weave a real field of force where the lines make sense and where they draw crossing perspectives. It is as if all the images of thought in this academic context had to be considered beyond their primary context, and imperceptibly aimed at a common horizon.
Luminaria acts as a lantern, or even a colored lantern that would provide both lighting and ventilation for the surrounding space. Touched by this sensitive, colorful and living light, the spectator, as a being entitled to make known (consciously or unconsciously) and share what René Thom defines as the ultimate nature of reality, would only have to share in return for this generous gesture the infinite horizon that the artist opens up for us.       Y.T.
